Aladdin Insane David Bowie Tribute

Aladdin Insane David Bowie Tribute Band

"For me music is the colour. Not painting. My music allows me to paint myself." (David Bowie)

David Bowie was a matchless, extraordinary and ever-changing artist. The Aladdin Insane band express their passion for this music myth with a very special tribute. They have accepted the difficult challenge of reinterpreting live - exclusively live, without recorded music and in the original keys – David Bowie’s vast repertoire, and they do it with real and genuine passion that enraptures and fascinates the audience. The exceptionality and strength of their music project lies especially in their lead vocalist, Ambra Mattioli.

Those who have seen her perform, agree that Ambra Mattioli, lead vocalist and front woman of the band, is an absolutely fascinating Ziggy Stardust. Bowie made of his alleged androgyny the key to his success, and Ambra is in this respect truly remarkable and surprising.

Ambra Mattioli is well known for her excellent interpretation of David Bowie. Dave Thompson, writer and journalist, mentioned her several times in his book "The Freakiest Show: David Bowie cover versions" and in the last edition of his book, Thompson even included a few pages about Ambra Mattioli with photos of her.

Her talent in interpreting Bowie was also noticed by movie director Andrea Pallaoro, who wanted her in his film "Hannah", presented at the 74th Venice Film Festival. Actress Charlotte Rampling, playing the leading role in the movie, was awarded the Volpi Cup for best female performer. In the film "Hannah", Ambra Mattioli plays a famous Bowie’s song, a chance to make the Thin White Duke, living inside her, known to the world.

Ambra participated with her "Burning Tape" -a short movie by director Valerio Burli that herself produced and interpreted- to "Bowienext", the film about Bowie conceived by the director and journalist Rita Rocca, broadcast by RAI5 Italian Television.

So far, the Aladdin Insane are a unique band in the world, being the only band that played - entirely live and in the original keys - the whole album Blackstar, the last David Bowie’s masterpiece. Blackstar -which Ambra and the Aladdin Insane band performed exclusively live first time at the “Cross Roads Live Club” in Rome- is an album designed and conceived only for studio recording. It demands uncommon interpretative techniques. Play it live was a challenge for the band, a live effort that required exceptional commitment and passion. A challenge that above all, Ambra and the Aladdin Insane have undertaken lived and won, as a true act of love and respect for David Bowie and his music.

Finally, here is what Ambra Mattioli always says with genuine emotion: "The applauses we receive are above all for him, for his music and only a small part is for us performers. We are just reproducing his music, as reflections in the facets of a diamond".
